Recommended Restaurants in the Aquitaine
At French Liaison we have learnt that recommendation is the best option when choosing some where to eat. There are those places that are excellent value for money and those that are for special occasions. There are places that are special for the ambiance, for the view and those just for the food only. Therefore, what we would like to do on this page is to invite visitors to the French Liaison website, to e-mail us with their favorite Restaurant or Cafe. We would also like feedback from people who visit recommended restaurants. We are limiting it to Departments 24,47 & 33 in the Aquitaine region at the moment, and just want to see if people are interested. Below we have listed a few Restaurants recommended by people we know to get started. These vary considerably in style and may not be to everyone's taste. Therefore it is important when recommending restaurants to give as much information as possible, the aim of this site is to look mainly at Restaurants and Cafe's that offer good value for money Menu's between 9.00€ and 29.00€ mainly looking at those that can offer an all inclusive meal between 9.50€ and 20.00€.

Here are some tips when eating out in France
For those that eat out regularly they will probably be aware of this. A lot of the Restaurants in the price range we are looking at will have an 'A La Carte' menu where you can choose individual dishes, usually the best value for money is the fixed menu which will have a range of prices and will usually include a dish of the day ""Plate de Jour". The fixed Menu will usually include a 3,4 or 5 course meal many also include Wine and Coffee all include Bread and a Jug of Water.
Meal times in France in particular rural areas are as follows: Lunch is usually 12/12.30 to 1.30pm if you arrive after 1pm and you have not booked they will often refuse to serve, they do not have second sittings in most places so if they are full that is it, so it is best to book. (Large Towns may be different) Lunch times Monday to Friday you can often get excellent value for money as the target Restaurants that this site is concentrating on specialize in providing meals for the workers, you will often see all the white Vans and Lorries out side do not be put off by this as they will be quite happy to serve you as well. Evenings you will often get the same Menu that was offered at Lunch time also be careful as some of these Restaurants are not open on a Weekend.
Sunday Lunch is usually a special Meal and can be more expensive so ask the price of the Menu in advance so there are no surprises.

This Restaurant traditional french cooking at a sensible price. 5 Course meal on a Sunday starts at 20€, the courses are of a good size but not too filling. There is something for everyone on the menu, frequented by mostly French people.
Open all year closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays open Sunday Evening, must book at peak times. Nice outside are under trees for summer.

This is a medium size Restaurant in the Village has a very good reputation, the food is traditional French & is very good . It is very friendly and well worth a visit.
The seating is inside only they do have outside seating for the Bar only. They are open all lunch times, Friday & Saturday evening. It is best to phone and book a table.

This is an excellent Restaurant for local food at reasonable prices. On busy days such as Sundays they use the Bar as well as the restaurant, so book early if you prefer the Restaurant. They seat about a 120 on a busy day. For a 5 course meal including Wine no choice on busy days it is a set Menu 15.00 a head, week day lunches ar cheaper. Always good value for money.
Open : all the year around every day lunch and dinner. Best to book.

This is a Grill the main courses are a choice of Duck, Steak or Fish all freshly Grilled.
You can have a 4 course meal for 17€ consisting of Soup, Buffet starter choice of salad cold meats & sea food, Buffet for the Sweet a good choice.
Seating inside good for families.
Open all year would recommend booking.

This is a very popular restaurant just outside of Bergerac, they specialize Périgourdine dishes – foie gras or rabbit pâté as starters, and duck cooked in a variety of ways as a main course, the soup is like a meal on its own.
They have a large restaurant and a covered outside terrace. Open daily except for dinner on Sunday and the whole of Monday in July and August, and dinner on Sunday and the whole of Monday and Tuesday in the rest of the year.

This is an Traditional English Pub with all the usual quiz night and other things British including the Beer, they run a book club on a Wednesday and offer english food only Wednesday lunch, the Bar is open most evenings 7 to 1am. This is a new Restaurant just opened in Eymet. The owners have previously operated a restaurant in Eymet which was very successful, the Chef is English and has an excellent reputation.
It has large inside seating area and an outside covered terrace.

The Restaurant is in 3 parts Inside outside covered Terrace and in Summer seating outside.
The restaurant is run by some colorful characters lot of banter. The food is excellent wide choice of traditional French cuisine. The portions are quite large so make sure you are hungry. The only minus is the wine no house wine, half bottle 12€.

This is one of the best Chinese visited by the people who recommended it. They have a buffet with excellent choice of starters, salad, main courses and sweets. Weekdays very reasonably priced and excellent value for money, Weekends including Friday more expensive, but still good value for money. No outside seating, very pleasant surroundings & very friendly

This Restaurant has been popular with people from the UK for many years. They serve a good basic 4 course meal for a reasonable price wine included. Most of the seating is inside, with a small area outside which is shaded for hot summer days. They speak a little English, very friendly Children welcome. They are usually closed Friday evenings and Saturdays.

This is a popular family restaurant, they do a buffet starter with large choice of salad, cold meats and sea food. The seating is all inside, very popular and would recommend booking in advance. They are very accommodating and will try to find a table if full. Pleasant views from the main restaurant. They cater for parties weddings etc.

This is a Portuguese Bar/ Caté/ Restaurant.
The Food is a mixture of French & Portuguese and is a set menu. The starter is a thin Soup; Salad and cold meat; usually a choice of main course Steak, Pork, Veal sometimes Duck or other options, choice of cheese or sweet, wine is included.
Most people eating tend to be Portuguese, the food is good value €16.00 a head all in.

Tortoni is the most popular Café/Restaurant/Bar in the town frequented mostly by locals. They serve excellent Pizzas, Salads and their Grand Assiet et Tortoni (Steak salad and Chips) is a good choice they sometimes offer a "plat de jour" which is excellent value for money. Very good for families, children's menu.
Open Lunch times only in the Winter, Summer open most days and evenings. Best to book in Summer especially if you want to be outside.
